We invite submissions for an upcoming special issue on Thermal Energy Storage. This edition will encompass the latest research development and demonstration of technologies related to thermal energy storage specifically for buildings and/or districts. We look forward to receiving contributions from researchers across all relevant disciplines, such as engineering, science, and architecture.

Building decarbonization is a key element in the combat against climate change, given the significant contribution of buildings to global greenhouse gas emissions. A viable approach to building decarbonization is electrifying building end uses and harnessing renewable energy resources for electricity generation. Thermal energy storage will be essential to accommodate electricity from intermittent renewable energy, reduce operational energy cost, and enhance resilience. This special issue seeks to feature a collection of high-quality articles that contribute to the advancement of knowledge on thermal energy storage through interdisciplinary approaches. The goal is to foster an equitable, smooth transition towards a more sustainable built environment.

Topic Areas

THE SCOPE OF THIS ISSUE INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Equipment-integrated thermal energy storage
  • Envelope-integrated thermal energy storage
  • Coordination between thermal and electrical energy storage
  • Material optimization and development
  • Advanced controls and best practices
  • Modeling and analysis
  • Test procedures
  • Life cycle analysis and environmental impact
